5 THINGS EVERY BUSINESS NEEDS TO KNOW TO PROTECT YOUR IDEAS

Every Business has IP. Every business has potential Intellectual Property (IP) that needs identifying and protecting, even at the idea stage. IP is not just for tech businesses or inventors. Your name or product name, branding, and customer lists are all valuable IP assets and need protection.

Patents are not the only Intellectual Property Protection. Many inventors understand patent requirements and process. However, patents are
not a necessity in every case and trade secrets should be considered for protection. Do not forget to consider the need to research any names for trademark purposes.

Not everyone will sign a NDA. We have all heard that everyone should sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) but some potential investors may not be able to sign. Consider giving enough information to explain your concept but not enough to have someone replicate your entire process or product.

Mailing an idea to yourself does not work. Envelopes can be steamed open or mailed empty with ideas inserted later. Your brilliant idea needs to be uploaded and time-stamped by an independent 3rd party, like a notary.

You don’t know what you have until it’s gone. When starting a business, growing or hiring, or raising capital, the first step is to know what you have by identifying all your valuable IP assets. Don’t wait until it’s too late,
especially with secrets, the time is now to discover what your valuable IP.

Applying for funding or pitching is daunting and difficult. Starting a business can be intimidating. You don’t know what you don’t know. Traklight makes it easy to get in the know about your intellectual property (IP) and protect your ideas. Started by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs, Traklight transforms a once confusing, expensive process into easy, affordable steps, saving time and money with attorneys later.

Logo Design Guru

Logo Design Guru (www.logodesignguru.com), the Web’s top destination for logo, brochure and web design services for small businesses and startups, received a positive mention in a recent “Cranky Consumer” column in the Wall Street Journal. The article, which provides a snapshot review of several web-based logo design services, was published in the July 16 edition, and recognized Logo Design Guru for its ease of ordering, value and customer service.

In the article, columnist Peter King noted: “Within five hours of ordering our $99 package from LogoDesignGuru.com, we received a phone call from the company giving us the name of our designer and her phone number. Overall, we were very impressed with the company’s customer service.”

To compare the overall experience of working with several web-based logo design services, a reporter at the Journal contacted several design providers, posing as a fictitious company named DiskFix Solutions that “helps people transfer or retrieve data from hard drives,” and ordered a logo, providing little other input except to state that he wanted the logo to look “high-tech”.

The resulting logo and the story behind the creation of that logo is featured on the Logo Design Guru blog, LogoTalk, a great source for branding and small business tips: http://blog.logodesignguru.com/

“It used to be cost-prohibitive for start-up companies to get a professional logo. But, now we enable these small businesses to boost their stature in the marketplace by designing a logo, brochure and website for them at a cost they can afford.”

The Journal selected Logo Design Guru’s starter service, the “99-er” package, which costs $99. This includes an original full-color concept, one subsequent revision, final digital files emailed within 24 hours of finalization, and free incorporation of the business. Additional services are available, offering more creative options, additional review cycles, custom stationery, Flash animations, business cards, and custom website design.

LogoMaid

It's taken me several years of daily searching through 1,000's of websites to finally settle on a new logo for SGB Media Group. So many very talented designers out there but I just ordered one through these folks that I'll be unveiling in a few days.
